Bug Description

When started the first time the Control Panel window is too small and therefore has a scroll bar which looks quite ugly. The scroll bar is scrollable with the mouse wheel but you can't scroll it by dragging the slider. Maximizing and restoring the window results in a much to wide window. Screenshots attached.

ubuntuone-control-panel 0.9.1-0ubuntu1, Natty daily build from 17.03 with recent updates.

Hi Photon,

first of all, thanks a lot for your input. Secondly, you should know that:

* the initial size is defined according to standards, so is visible on small screens like netbooks
* the issue that appears after maximizing and unmaximizing is known and is reported in bug #715798

So I'm closing this bug as duplicate.

Cheers, Natalia.

Hi Natalia,

thanks for your comment. My first screenshot is 684px wide and regarding the scroll bar less than 50px are missing to display the full window content and remove the scroll bar. This still makes far less then 800px which is again far less than 1024px, the minimal netbooks screen resolution.

Even if the window size should be really that limited it would be a much better solution to make the two big buttons on the right a bit smaller to fit the window than adding a (not working) scrollbar. :)

So I think that, though the maximize/restore issue has been reported already, the main issue concerning the scrollbar is still a valid one.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the follow up on this. When we decided the initial size for the main window we asked the Design and UX team about this, and we agreed that the width will be no longer than 736 px (to support 800x600 resolutions + launcher panel).

As you can see in latest trunk, the width is now explicitly set to 736px. Regarding the buttons, that's also a design decision that, for now, will not be changed.

Cheers, Natalia.

I can't test the trunk but I hope that the 736px will be sufficient to remove the scrollbar. If not, the Design team should consider the loss on vertical space due to the redundant scrollbar. :)
