A user on ubuntuone-4.1.91.1-windows-installer reported this same problem to U1 support so it's still not fixed there.

I'm running 4.1.91.0 on Windows 8. The UI status gets stuck on the "Sync starting" message, and if I click disconnect it keeps in "Loading" forever. Just part of my folder was sync'd. Same message on log: "Path <file> should be a bytes sequence" with a *.lnk file. Deleting all *.lnk files in all sub-directories solved the problem here.
