Bug Description

Environment: Windows 7 x64

Steps to reproduce:
- Install Ubuntu One and open
- Click on "I don't have an account yet - Sign me up"
- In the "Ubuntu Single Sign On" window, a red line saying "There was a problem getting the captcha, reloading..." appears
- Refreshing the captcha doesn't help, captcha still doesn't load.

Result: It's impossible to sign up to an ubuntu One account.

Expected Result: The captcha should load.

See a screenshot of the "Ubuntu Single Sign On" window, with the problem highlighted.

Hello all,

Could you please tell whether you are using any kind of antivirus or custom firewall installed?
Additinally, please tell what network type you are using (Home/Work/Public)?

Your assistance in debugging this issue is extremely appreciated.

P.S. I have checked
English Win7 32 & 64 bit with Norton Internet Security and AVG and was not able to reproduce this issue in various network configurations.

Hello,

It's on a labtop on wifi and a desktop wired, the same internet line (adsl).
On both of us it's windows firewall and avast antivirus free. French windows 7 64.
I have tried on both with or whithout firewall, antivirus (all combination), i have tried without my internet router (desktop directly connected to internet wiht public address).
All other service seems working.
I have installed the ubuntuone client on neigbourg and friend computer i never meet the same problem before.Yesterday on my father in law desktop (w7 64) , no problem but, other internet adsl line. I cant't understant.

Thanks

Hi all,

I use the standard Windows Firewall, and my antivirus is Microsoft Security Essentials. Disabling both firewall and antivirus unfortunately doesn't solve the problem. in addition, I want to add that my Win7 x64 system language is Russian, if that's of any importance.

Also have this problem. Displays exactly as the attached screenshot image. Trying to install U1 on Toshiba laptop running Win7. Uses windows firewall with standard settings and vipre antivirus, which I disabled but this didn't help. Performs a perfect install up to the point of registering new user where the captcha is blank and I can get no further. Using English as system language.

Hi all,

can you try to update your root certificate for the microsoft certificate storage.
perhpas you have a problem in validating one of the CA cert used for ubuntuone.

check on --> start --> run ---> certmgr.msc

update your ca storage with :

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29434

reboot (off course is windows )

Regs,

I don't think it's a SO problem, because I am experiencing the same thing using Ubuntu 12.04 32 bits.
I can't authentication in Ubuntu Client (the answer is always authentication failed), although I can loggin via Web browser. If 'I try a new account the captcha doesn't show up.
I have another computer, same Ubuntu 12.04 32 bits, and everything works fine.

I notice that this complaint spans a period from April 19 2012 to today August 31, 2012.

I'm noting the same complaint: I cannot sign on to Ubanta One because captcha doesn't load.

I have gone to other sites with captcha gatekeepers, and they are working. Ubantu One is the first and only web site I have encountered with this problem. I don't follow the thread of thought in the previous entries, and perhaps I should not comment without that understanding, but:

Were I trying to debug this phenomenon I would start with the code that is calling the 'captcha' code. It seems unlikely to me that many instances of captcha would work on any given PC, and then fail because of some certificate, firewall, or virus checker. That would be especially true where so many people on diverse platforms are encountering the same problem.

More than my two cents worth! Derick Moore
