Bug Description

Installed Ubuntu One 1.0 Beta 2 for Windows. It accepts my username and password but stops at "Getting information, please wait...".

I have a Lenovo T61 running Win 7 Enterprise. I'm trying to connect to Ubuntu One through our company network.

Hello Dojo!

Thanks for helping us making Ubuntu One better. I would guess the network in your work has a proxy. If that's the case, I'm sorry to inform we're not supporting proxy for this release.

Let me know if you are not behind a proxy and we'll debug further.

Regards, Natalia.

Hello Ashish!

Are you behind a proxy as well? If not, can you please a separated support request? Your issue seems to be different than the one reported.

Thanks!
Natalia.

Hi Natalia.

We are not behind a proxy here where I work. But we do have the usual firewall, etc. I will try logging in again when I get home and update you.

Hello Dojo,

Apparently the firewall setting you/your company has is blocking http request to go in and out. We're not adding proxy support for this release, but you can keep track on the progress in that front by subscribing to bug #387308.

For the rest of the users commenting in this bug report, if you're completely sure you're not behind a proxy, please file a separated support request/bug so we can do the proper diagnose.

Thanks all for helping making Ubuntu One better!

A bug which appears to be a duplicate of this pins the problem on not being administrator.

Like I mentioned in comment #7, if you are 100% sure you're not behind a proxy, please file a separated bug report, make it private and attach all your Ubuntu One logs there.

Logs can be located in:

Win XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\xdg\cache\

Win 7:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\xdg\cache\

Thanks everyone!

I noticed, that if your Windows 7 profile name is cyrillic, installation stops at "Getting information...". When I created new profile with english name, installation finished successfully and sync works fine. Of course, this can't be the only reason, but I hope it can help.

You should check User Account Control settings in Windows 7:

1. Open User Account Control Settings, type UAC in the Start Search box, and then click Change User Account Control settings in the Control Panel window.

2. Move the slider to the DEFAULT notification setting, and then click OK.

My UAC was disabled and that was the reason why Ubuntu One stucked with the "Getting information, please wait..." window.

I have the same problem
I have uninstalled, installed, removed folders etc several times and U1 is still stuck on getting information. I am running XP Pro with all updates current except that I don't use Internet Explorer. U1 does not ask for a password or user id.

U1 version is 4.2.0

I would like to find a tool like this to buy and to recommend to my customers to buy but only if it works.

After several unsuccesfull installations of various versions (4.2.0, 4.0.0, 3.0.2b, 3.0.1, 2.0) I tried today to install a very old version of U1.

Thus I installed "ubuntuone-installer-1.1beta2.exe". This version installed flawlessly without this '"Getting information, please wait..."' problem.

Hoping that this might give you an idea about the cause of this problem.

PS. Is it safe to stay with this old version? Should I try to update now to 4.2.0?

Vassilis
