This is normal in a specific part of syncdaemon where hashes files before connecting to the network.

Please, open a terminal and tell us what "u1sdtool -s" returns when this happens to you.

Thanks!

Ubuntu 10.04 on dual core laptop. I'm connected to the LAN (approx 100MB/s).

u1sdtool -s

State: LOCAL_RESCAN

Seems that either my University's firewall is blocking U1, or that U1 cannot exchange security credentials. Whatever the cause, U1 permanently ties up 50% (i.e. 100% of any one core) all the time. I used to just kill the daemon but now I have uninstalled it.

I am sure there is a start-up option that prevents U1 from launching but a clean shutdown in the U1 applet would be nice. Alternatively a time-out: "Can't get a connection to sync your files, shutdown? (Y/N)" would do it.

Roger: Exactly, syncdaemon it's in LOCAL RESCAN stage, which involves hashing your files, so you'll see a lot of CPU activity.

When that finishes, Syncdaemon will be READY to connect to the servers, but note you still didn't tell him that you want it to connect.

You can do that issuing the following in a terminal:

  u1sdtool -c

So, I'm marking this as "invalid", because this is the expected behaviour.

Remember that if you have any doubt it may be quicker to contact us in the #ubuntuone IRC channel, on Freenode. You can ping me directly, my nick is facundobatista.

Thanks for your time and help!
