Bug Description

My U1 client applet is refusing to connect. Every time I tell it to, it will change its looks to show that it's connected, and the "Disconnect" menu item turns into "Connect."

This is on a freshly updated & rebooted machine with a fine connection the DC.

I take it there's some sort of error causing the connection to fail, but it's not shown anywhere in the UI that I can see. I looked at the web UI to see if I needed to re-register my machine (leading me to discover bugs 515053 and 515054), but did not see the "add this machine" option offered anywhere so I assume it's not that.

Jeroen,
I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One is not working properly for you. If you would like to help debug the problem that would be greatly appreciated. You can do the following in order to provide important details that will help determine the root cause of this issue?

1) Quit the Ubuntu One client. R-click on the Ubuntu One applet and select 'Quit'

2) Open Applications->Accessories->Terminal, then run the command:
  mv ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log_old && mkdir ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log

3) Run the following in a Terminal to open/create this file:
 gedit ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf

    #Add the following 2 lines to this file and save:
    [__main__]
    log_level = DEBUG

4) Open Ubuntu One Applications->Internet->Ubuntu One

5) Let Ubuntu One run for a bit, copy some files into your Ubuntu One Folder. Then attach the following logs to this bug: ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon.log & ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon-exceptions.log

You can attach logs to this bug report by clicking the 'Add Attachment or patch' button at the bottom of the page. Thank you for filing this bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Thanks for the fast follow-up! For the record: feel free to "talk shell" to me and leave out the "click Start" bits. I'm a software engineer. :)

I:
 * Added a test file.
 * Deleted it again.
 * Copied a file into U1.
 * Deleted another, older test file.
 * Deleted a tarball that U1 had previously truncated to 0 bytes.

U1 seems to be working this time.

Logs follow.

Looks like quitting the client wasn't enough to make the sync daemon write to the new log directory. It just keeps the same log file open, so I'll attach the part that was appended since I did the restart dance.

No new exceptions were logged. Also note the typo in this debug message: "connect requetsed"
