all files marked .u1conflict and newest versions auto-deleted

Bug Description

Perhaps this is caused by daylight saving time differences between my location and the server's location. At work, all files were marked .u1conflict and then deleted. No questions asked, I saw all the work I did in the morning get deleted cheerfully. Traveltime between home and work is less than 1 hour, so this may have something to do with wrong timestamp-checking...

Back to a USB stick.

Hi Marius,

I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One isn't working properly for you. In order for us to track down the root cause of this problem, we'll need you to attach ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon.log to this bug report. Note that attaching syncdaemon.log will show filenames you are attempting to sync with Ubuntu One. If you do not want this to be public, please mark the bug as private and this bug report will only be available to you and the Ubuntu One team.

Thank you,

Joshua

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for your help. Attached is a tar.gz with the syncdaemon.logs and exceptions from yesterday. These are from my work PC where the unwanted behavior occurred. The error could of course be in what any of the other machines did. Do you need/want the logs from those as well?

Cheers,

Marius.

Right now the Ubuntu One icon on my PC at home has a red exclamation mark: "Capabilities mismatch with server".

Last night I was happy to see that my PC at home was downloading all the current files, even though it still marked everything it alreday had with the '.u1conflict' extension. This means it downloaded files that were already there (only a few of those were changed), and I had two sets of files. I deleted the 'u1conflict' set.

I'm curious to see what will happen when I arrive at work...

Hi marius,

I'm following up on older bugs that were marked as "High". We've made a lot of improvements and changes to Ubuntu One since this bug was filed. I've been unable to reproduce the problem you were seeing and the log files do not seem to indicate that there was a problem. If this is still affecting you, can you follow up with a short message and run the following from a terminal session (Applications->Accessories->Terminal): apport-collect -p ubuntuone-client 461905

Thank you,

Joshua

I frequently get these errors. I use ubuntu one with just a single regular client machine. However I've also just noticed that the out-of-date version from the server (the one without the .u1conflict) gets copied back WITHOUT the correct file permissions. What I had thought was a fairly secure protocol has now set my local files to be world readable.

Ick.

Please tell me what logs etc I can provide to try to help fix this bug.

Adding to this as I have found it via Launchpad. My original post there was:

Lately, I've been getting files in folders where I write programs that have a u1conflict extension. As best I can figure out, this has something to do with Ubuntu One services. What, exactly, does it mean? Are they files that haven't been "synchronized" yet on U1? Will they disappear once that happens? My biggest concern, and the reason I started noticing them, is that they often appear when I recompile with gcc, and the executable doesn't. If I thought it would help, I'd remove U1 and stop using it, since I don't really get that much out of it anyway. The indications on line, however, suggest that doesn't fix the problem.

      The link for it was:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntuone-client/+question/153168

I also use a single computer, and had planned on using U1 to back up important files. From the sounds of this, I'm better off without it and just backing up said files on CD's. How do I shut down everything in U1 and get rid of it for sure (until it works correctly)?
