Bug Description

icon in task bar, but left-click+connect leads to no reaction at all
reinstalled xubuntu desktop as some suggested elsewhere, didn't help. Thanks :)

(please excuse, I'm a relatively unexperienced user. reported a new bug since others had no problem to get launch feedback when connecting, but I guess it's related to other Xubuntu users')

Hi, We require the use of NetworkManager. If you do not use NetworkManager, Ubuntu One will not work. NetworkManager is standard on Xubuntu so I don't think this should be an issue unless you've chosen to not use NetworkManager. Thank you, Joshua

Thanks a lot, I wouldn't have assumed this could be the reason for my problem. :)

Unfortunately, my DSL provider's DSL modem is known to have (hardware-sided) difficulties with NetworkManager. I guess this isn't the right place to ask since a bug report (if you want, delete this comment), otherwise people in the same situation perhaps find this thread; do you intend to somewhen support pppoeconf for this service?

Actaully, we don't require NetworkManager. From the log it appears that you have NetworkManager running, but I am guessing you've configured your interfaces to not be managed by it. When we call NetworkManager, it is replying with an error. Probably this error is something about there not being any interfaces for NM to manage. If you configure your system to not run NetworkManager at all, or fully remove it from your system, then I think ubuntuone-client-applet should work for you.

Can you confirm that this is true and see if removing/disabling NM fully will solve the issue for you? Thanks.

Of course. :) Seems not to be the case. When I first installed Ubuntu One, I had NetworkManager completely removed from my system (purge+reboot). If you need more information, you can find all changes I made to the clean install of Xubuntu, here -> http://my.opera.com/js27/blog/2009/09/27/installing-xubuntu-personal-experiences .

Hi, can you please run this script I'm attaching here, and paste the output in a comment? Thanks!

(meanwhile reinstalled Ubuntu One using Firefox, with the same result as before; it doesn't ask for access when first startup, just shows the icon in the tray + disconnected-sign)

here's the output I got with your script:

js@js-desktop:/bin$ sudo ./nm-checker.py
ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on org.freedesktop.NetworkManager:/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files
