This problem doesn't sound like it is [Solved] but he's found more of a work around.
BTW, I noticed this same behaviour on my system.

Hi Pedro,
Thank you for documenting the workaround. We need to be sure to either (re)create the ~/Ubuntu One folder in this case or provide a more meaningful error.

OK, i created the folder Ubuntu One under ~ and it seems to work now
