No response from program after fresh install

After a fresh install, the client app will run with no errors, but it doesn't actually place an icon in the panel, nor prompt me to add this computer (as per installation instructions.

ubuntuone-client-applet -s runs with no messages whatsoever.

I should note that the installation was performed over a reboot (there was a kernel dependency). Also after installing ubuntuone client, there update-manager updated a load of programs (including, it seemed, the kernel - which was added as a dependency of ubuntuone client).

So the process went something like this:
1) Added PPA (with a load of dependencies which demanded a reboot)
2) Installed ubuntu one client.
3) Update using update-manager
4) Click ubuntuone icon.
5) Nothing happens (although ubuntuone-client-applet is running). No error messages or log messages. Nothing.

Thanks for opening this bug. A few other people have previously noticed
the issue in bug #369038 [1]. The resolution is also captured in
Launchpad Answer #76131 [2]. I hope everyone enjoys participating in the
Ubuntu One beta test. Keep contributing bugs.
