sync daemon spinning indefinitely

I dist-upgraded today, which brought a new ubuntuone-client. After rebooting, syncd sat there for 1:15 hours taking 100% CPU and piling up memory

  4365 martin 20 0 120m 29m 4272 R 100 3.0 70:52.56 ubuntuone-syncd

I finally killed it, since it wasn't doing anything obvious (no new files, etc.), and the log file (17 MB) looked like an infinite loop.

This didn't happen with previous versions.

Whoops, attached the wrong log file initially. It was the 500 MB [sic] one actually. Fortunately it bzip2's nicely into 6 MB.

It seems the symlink points to a nonexisting directory. Instead I have in ../diplom/:

In my original latex tree, the directory is correctly named "bench".

So we have two issues here:

  - loops on dangling symlinks
  - renames directories to .conflict

I have had the same problem that the sync-deamon was eating all of the cpu and growing in memory size (up to 900mb). I do not know where the log is created so I cannot post that one.

Look in ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/

I am also affected with the same problem of perpetual spinning. (Latest version of the client, updated a couple of days ago). My CPU though is not sucked up completely as per the OP description:

ubuntuone-client is 1-2%
ubuntuone-sycnd never goes over 1%.

I also don't know where to look for the log file, so I can't attach it. A problem that might be child of this one is the one I just reported here:

Just wishing to add for other fellow users: the spinning problem get solved by disconnecting/reconnecting the client.

Logs are in ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/, as explained in comment #9 of this report.
