Bug Description

Hi all,
I have not been able to reply to any threads or put up any posts for quite a major part today.

On #ubuntuforums confirmed that there are no infractions (so that's out the way)

emptied the cache and everything and still no go.

I got various errors such as

ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://ubuntuforums.org/

The following error was encountered:

   * Unable to forward this request at this time.

This request could not be forwarded to the origin server or to any
parent caches. The most likely cause for this error is that:

   * The cache administrator does not allow this cache to make direct
connections to origin servers, and
   * All configured parent caches are currently unreachable.

Your cache administrator is webmaster.

Thank you. I don't think it is your fault, or that there is any problem with your account. We have some ongoing issues with our servers causing this problem. It has to do with the configuration of the squid cache that we are using, but don't have direct control over.

We will make sure those who need to see this do, and hope that it gets fixed soon. Our apologies for the problem.

You've been posting just fine. I told you that. You asked on IRC, and
I told you I could see all 4 posts you did in a row when you thought the
posts weren't going. They're posting just fine. I think the problem is
on your end.

And yes, I think the forums did go down just after, because I tried to
delete your duplicate posts and got a 502 proxy error.

Thanks for confirming that Mackenzie.

We are definitely having recurring issues with site stability and availability arising from the proxy, but it is nice to know the posts are coming through, even if the poster can't see them.

Hi Mackenzie Morgan,
Thank you for getting back so quickly. I can understand if its a
problem with one browser (maybe my cache isn't emptied or something
like that)

but what if I'm using a different browser and not even being logged in.

Apart from ff, also tried arora (which is QT based)

Lemme give a user-experience (perhaps it might make it more understandable)

If I go to

http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=352

the last post I see on the forum is by somebody Lord Veovis on the
topic Desktop icons disappear.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1033060

If I go however to

http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=310

I see the latest post has been done in the thread titled

ubiquity and ext4

with the last post done by a user named int

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1034082

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6517941#post6517941

Now this whole experience is in arora, not firefox.

There is a possibility that there may be a bug within my system but where?

Are you behind a caching web proxy?

I've actually noticed this behavior as well, though only today so far. For
example, the thread listing might say the latest topic has seven replies,
but you open it and there are nine. Or, something like the last poster on
the thread list was "bill," but opening the topic shows that "bill" last
posted a few hours earlier and the most recent post is by another user.
Reloading both the thread listing and topic pages does not seem to change
anything.

Sounds like forum/vB caching to me - not a big deal, but it's a little
confusing at times.

Dumb question I guess, but what's that?

It has happened once before with me, That time I had taken refuge of

tdflanders, the problems you saw when you posted back were from a different set of problems, which have also been fixed.

Thanks.
