Bug Description

Image on my HiDPI 4K eDP screen (HP zbook 15) is flickering since I upgraded my kernel to 4.4.0-59.

With 4.4.0-53 kernel, everything is ok.

I have try :
  - 4.4.0-59
  - 4.4.0-62
  - 4.8.0-36 (from linux-generic-hwe-16.04)

All of us make my eDP screen flickering when it was alone. Because the amazing things is here : when my laptop is docked and get two other screen (one fullHD and one 2K), everything get back to normal. Even on my eDP 4K screen !

I don't know how to know where the problem come from. Kernel ? radeon.ko ? xorg-video-radeon ? Gnome Shell ? Is amdgpu.ko usable ? How to test it ? ... need help.

Would it be possible to test a couple of kernels?

First test the latest Xenial kernel:
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-security-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/12080749

If that kernel still has the bug, please test the last kernel version before you hit the bug, -58:
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/11758956

For both these kernel, you need to install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Today I give a try to the 4.8.0-41 kernel (from linux-generic-hwe-16.04) and flickering affect this kernel !

So, I do an $( apport-collect 1663637 ) during the use of that kernel and now I'll go back to 4.4.0-66 to restore a stable display.
