/usr/bin/texi2dvi: etex exited with bad status, quitting.
make[1]: *** [bashref.dvi] Error 1
at least for bash (and a package I can't remember anymore), this is a problem with the @ character in texi sources.
As you can see, the @{@} is replaced with each line read from standard input.
A rebuild of texlive-bin didn't help
