Bug Description

as #16 and #18, installing fglrx-experimental-12 could fix this issue. close as invalid since not fixed by kernel.

Problem encountered:
System will not resume from suspend. No response from key or power button presses. Display is completely black, and system will not respond to switch tty.

Reproducable?
Yes, everytime.

Failure occurs whether suspend action is invoked with lid close, menu option, or via fwts.

Retested with proprietary ati enabled and result was the same:

This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

Please follow the instructions on the wiki page[0]. The first step is to email the appropriate mailing list. If no response is received, then a bug may be opened on bugzilla.kernel.org.

I believe this is a regression, since this was not a problem in oneiric.

Hi Jeff,

Could you please help to test if the Magic key is work? If it's not, it should hang in BIOS.

@Gavin,

Sorry, what is the Magic key?

@Jeff: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key

it may be disabled, I can't recall if we turn it off by default or not, so do this:

# cat /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq

if it's a 0, you need to change it to a 1:

# sudo echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq

You can refer to the following: http://www.howtogeek.com/119127/use-the-magic-sysrq-key-on-linux-to-fix-frozen-x-servers-cleanly-reboot-and-run-other-low-level-commands/

Usually it can be done by Alt + SysRq + key(b, z, m, ...). If SysRq isn't exist, you can use PrntScrn instead. The purpose is to make sure if the kernel is still alive or the hang is in the kernel when there is any message after pressing the Magic Key.

Another suggestion, could you also please log the messages from var/log/kern.log after reboot from the fail resume. There should be some messages from the last resume.

Could someone test it with noefi as kernel parameter? It is requred for Lenovo S205 which is built on similar hardware.

i just tried the noefi on an affected e135 system from the raring live cd; the symptoms are the same (as described, no wakeup).

after trying to wake the device again, the fan spins up, the only device led goes to 'on' again, but the device does not react to magic key (alt print o to power-off).

I'm planning to buy one, however I'd like to know if there is a some kind of workaround for this issue.
There are some ideas on archwiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ThinkPad_Edge
(Not the same model though)

Resume from suspend on E135 works in current 12.04 after:

apt-get install fglrx-experimental-12

Jeff Marcom, as per http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html an update is available for your BIOS (2.53). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Thank you for your understanding.

Christopher M. Penalver, I had the same problem, and now it works for me, after installing "fglrx-experimental-12".
My BIOS is the old 2.52. I am currently writing on this machine, it has just resumed from suspend as expected.
In my opinion, the bug can be closed.
