Bug Description

Debian-menu XPM files are dated and using the old KDE 3 icon of digikam and showfoto. This gives bad brand recognition. While this issue has a rather small impact it is a related change to bug #781728 which warrants a SRU anyway. Considering the amount of packages built by the digikam source it seems worthwhile to combine as many updates
as possible.

[Test Case]
* Check that /usr/share/pixmaps/digikam.xpm is identical to /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/digikam.png

[Regression Potential]
* None, simple icon swap.

-----
Binary package hint: digikam

Why does digikam have this icon under gnome: http://toooools.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/digikam.png

Instead of the much nicer Oxygen one?: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3c/Digikam_Oxygen.svg/120px-Digikam_Oxygen.svg.png

Mhmm, the distributed digikam.xpm

/usr/share/app-install/icons/digikam.xpm
/usr/share/pixmaps/digikam.xpm

contain the old picture. Can you try:

sudo convert /usr/share/icons/oxygen/32x32/apps/digikam.png /usr/share/app-install/icons/digikam.xpm
sudo convert /usr/share/icons/oxygen/32x32/apps/digikam.png /usr/share/pixmaps/digikam.xpm

And let us know if this fixes the problem?

Achim

Can this be reopened? The default Ubuntu icon for digikam is really awful and the oxygen one should really be the one used. I tried the commands in comment #2 and it kind of works as intended, but using the 32x32 icon isn't a good idea since it's too low res for the launcher. The 64x64 icon should really be the one used or even the 128x128 one.

I did this fix with Ubuntu 12.04.. using the 64 bit icon.

The above commands worked for me, although I changed the 32x32 parts to 64x64. It looks great!

Are there any plans to fix this in Quantal? It doesn't make sense to me to fix this in Precise and have it be unfixed in Quantal as it would be a regression of sorts for people who upgrade from P to Q.

This bug was fixed in the package digikam - 4:3.0.0~beta3-0ubuntu1

---------------
digikam (4:3.0.0~beta3-0ubuntu1) raring; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
    - Add build-deps : libhupnp-dev, libqtgstreamer-dev, libmagickcore-dev
  * Merge from debian, remaining changes:
    - Make sure libqt4-opengl-dev, libgl1-mesa-dev and libglu1-mesa-dev only
      install on i386,amd64 and powerpc
    - Depend on libtiff-dev instead of libtiff4-dev
    - Drop digikam breaks/replaces kipi-plugins-common since we're past the
      LTS release now
    - digikam to recommend mplayerthumbs | ffmpegthumbs. We currently only
      have latter in the archives, even though former is also supposed to
      be part of kdemultimedia. (LP: #890059)
    - kipi-plugins to recommend www-browser rather than konqueror directly
      since 2.8 no direct usage of konqueror is present in the flickr
      plugin anymore (LP: #1011211)
    - Keep kubuntu_mysqld_executable_name.diff
    - Don't install libkipi translations
    - Keep deps on libcv-dev, libcvaux-dev
    - Keep split packaging of libraries
    - Replace icons from KDE 3 time in debian/xpm.d/*.xpm with the new
      versions (LP: #658047)
  * Update debian/not-installed
