Bug Description

[ Impact ]

 * We want to build a preinstalled images for PIC64GX Curiosity Kit for Noble and Oracular.
These will depend on u-boot-pic64gx and linux-image-pic64gx until upstreaming is completed.

 * These files need to be changed:
   live-build/auto/config
   live-build/ubuntu-cpc/hooks.d/base/disk-image-uefi-non-cloud.binary

[ Test Plan ]

 * Build the PIC64GX and the Icicle Kit preinstalled images.

 * Check that both images boot according.

 * Check apt-get update and installing a package works.

[ Where problems could occur ]

 * The PIC64GX image might not be usable.

 * Other images might not build correctly anymore.
This is why in the test plan we build a different image too.

Hello Heinrich, or anyone else affected,

Accepted livecd-rootfs into noble-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-rootfs/24.04.74 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-noble to verification-done-noble. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-noble. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Building the Icicle Kit preinstalled image succeded.

The board boots fine and package hello could be installed.

Building the PIC64GX image failed as expected as u-boot-pic64gx is still in proposed and the device-tree for board is not in linux-image-generic, yet.

What does this mean for this SRU? Is it blocked until those other two packages are released to updates?

I'm tagging this bug with block-proposed-noble due to the above, until it's clarified.

I don't think it's necessary to block this until the build for newly added subarch support succeeds, it's enough to be confident that it doesn't regress any current builds I think? (speaking somewhat biasedly as someone wanting to get a change that is on top of this one into noble-updates)

No need to block on this. Also, u-boot-pic64gx has made its way to the -updates pocket.
