Maybe this bug is closed in Debian, but it is still present in Ubuntu. It could be considered invalid if the updated package was in the Ubuntu repos.

OK, it is published in Oneiric but what about Natty?

But I don't know how to mark this bug affected only to Ubuntu Natty.

You are the maintainer so it is up to you to publish packages for
Natty and Lucid anyway.

1) There is no package wine1.3 in Ubuntu Lucid. It was introduced in Natty:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/wine1.3

2) There is no package q4wine in Ubuntu Lucid. It was introduced in Maverick:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/q4wine

3) I maintain package in Debian and I have no any possibilities to change something directly in Ubuntu. I can affect only to packages in current developing version of Ubuntu because it sync packages with Debian Sid automatically. (Except freeze period)

So you need find ubuntu developer which has rights to do changes in stable release. I signed two developers into this bug report. Maybe they can help.

4) There is the official PPA for q4wine:
https://launchpad.net/~tehnick/+archive/tehnick

So your worries about users are in vain.

I made the trivial patch.

Colin, could you update this package?

Hi.
I got this problem/bug too.
Now (until Wed Jun 29 00:42:39 CEST 2011) running:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tehnick/tehnick && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install q4wine; date
the installation on Pinguy OS 11.04.1 32 bit has gone ok.

Boris,

Could you please contact whoever is responsible for Ubuntu so they can add more recent versions to Maverick and Natty? The current version for Maverick is still 0.118, and that is more than 1 year old. Maverick repository could be updated to v0.120 or (preferably) v0.121

The will be no package conflict with wine 1.3 because q4wine depends on wine1.2 OR wine (metapackage), and wine 1.3 (provided by their official PPA) also provides an updated wine metapackage, so both dependencies will be satisfied.

I could use your unofficial PPA, but this is only a workaround... the best solution would be if official Ubuntu repositories were updated with newer versions.

What is the procedure to update an Ubuntu repository? Since you are the maintainer, could you please contact him, or give us detailed instructions on how to do so?

Thanks!

This thread exactly about package in Ubuntu Natty as you can see.

Version 0.118 is stable and normally carries out its functions. The update is not necessary.

My PPA is official for Q4Wine project, see:
http://q4wine.brezblock.org.ua/download/
http://tehnick-8.narod.ru/q4wine/
And this is recomended solution...

I did this already (for backports, since this is an upgrade and not a fix):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/maverick-backports/+bug/806937

But..

I guess if YOU don't think the backport is necessary, the chances of my proposal going to happen are close to zero :P

Yes, I've done that.. and it works great! Thanks!

My main reason for upgrading was for BottleSpec compatibility (so it would recognize automatically bottles i've manually created in ~/.local/share/wineprefixes). But it didn', not even using the "Import" function. And it didn't import Winetricks names from "wrapper.cfg". Also, creating new bottles didn't even suggest that path (so I could just input the name and qt4wine would handle the path.

Are you guys interested in volunteers for development? I would gladly help improving q4wine. So far it is THE best wine frontend, so it's better helping it than to reinvent the wheel myself.

Rodrigo

Well.. This should work :) At least it works on my homebox. I'd like to see q4wine's debug output (-DDEBUG=ON build option)

From the begging q4wine allows user to create prefixes anywhere where he wish. If you wish add some kind of "default" places, leaving ability to choose any other location -- i have no objections for it :]

Sure. q4wine is gpl3 software, you can change and modify it.
code base: http://github.com/brezerk/q4wine/tree/master
Patches are always welcome. -DRELEASE=OFF build option will allow you to test q4wine from buildroot without installation.
