meld /path/to/folder doesn't work

Binary package hint: meld

Running meld /path/to/a/folder (where the folder is a git or svn folder) does not work. Meld comes up but with nothing showing in the GUI. The man page of meld says that this should work so this pretty much looks like a bug.
It is also impossible to open a vcs diff when starting meld from the menu/launcher

TESTCASE:
 svnadmin create /tmp/test-repo
 svn co file:///tmp/test-repo repo
 cd repo
 echo "bla" > file
 svn add file
 svn commit
echo "blub" >> file
cd /some/other/non-vcs-folder
meld /tmp/repo

expected output:
a diff with the result from svn diff
real output:
an empty window

regression potential:
low, it is a small simple to backport fix.
It has been released in oneiric since 1.5.2. I have been using it since the commit (25 may)

this issue has been fixed in upstream commit 9da095e9c1d330e5e78474633c76c7efcbb4693b and was released in 1.5.2
