Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Nautilus "Open with Other Application" has a "Remember this application for $FILETYPE files" feature which is enabled by default and also does not work.

Expecting:
1) Not on by default, as this may be used for one-off, opening a file in another program.
2) If it's checked, it should remember the program selected

WORKAROUND:
- right click the file in question
- select PROPERTIES all the way down in the popup menu
- go to "open with" tab
- select an application that should be used by default
- profit every time you double click

is there any chance of that fix reaching the lucid repos?

the corresponding change is http://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/commit/?id=9192dd8faffd788acf54a3b98de48cd1252dd9a6, it's not on the lucid backport list for now though but could be if we get extra request for it

We're planning on sticking with Lucid until the next LTS. Given that this is a very basic issue that affects every desktop user I would have to request for this to be backported. Is there any specific place to request this?

right, the number of users subscribed to the bug is low and there is no duplicate so it's low on the stable update list, the change will be uploaded to the current unstable distribution to be tested then backported to lucid later on

This should be fixed as having such basic functionality broken in a long term release looks really unprofessional.

it has been fixed some hours before your comment as the bug log indicates, note that the is no point to argue on whether the bug is annoying or not, it's not a blocker issue because for most users and in most cases the right softwares are used by default, the bug will be fixed anyway once the fix is confirmed to do its job
