Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-showcase

For background information, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/Specs/Lucid/FirefoxNewSupportModel/

We are rolling out Firefox 3.6.4 to Hardy, Jaunty and Karmic shortly (and also to Lucid as a minor update). As part of this rollout, we also have to fix everything that this update breaks. This includes most extensions in the archive, and we are rolling out updated extensions alongside the security update.

In general, we aren't updating extensions that are already broken in a particular release.

However, firefox-showcase has shipped the same version since Jaunty (0.9.4.6-0ubuntu1). It doesn't work in Lucid and Karmic (it only supports FF3.0), but it does work in Hardy and Jaunty. This means we have to update the extension in Hardy and Jaunty.

This creates a bit of a mess though, as whatever we do in Jaunty will bump the version number higher than that of Karmic and Lucid. This means we are going to have to do a SRU in karmic and lucid to bump the version number (either by shipping the new extension we are going to ship in Hardy and Jaunty, or by providing some dummy binary packages that just remove the broken extensions)

The candidate for Hardy is currently sitting in the u-m-s PPA (https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-security/+archive/ppa) and is at version 0.9.5.5-0ubuntu0.8.04.1

Incidentally, this extension will be dropped from the archive entirely in Maverick. It should have gone when we cleaned the extensions in Lucid, so I'm not sure how this slipped through the net

This also applies to stumbleupon, venkman and useragentswitcher in karmic (they all ship the same versions in Jaunty / Karmic, all of them currently work in Jaunty and none of them work in Karmic).
