Bug Description

Hello,

Thanks for your hard work :)
I got this error after kernel update to 5.19.0-35 as explained here :
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1457367/snd-hda-intel-0000001f-3-too-many-bdl-entries-messages-in-system-log
and here :
https://lore.kernel<email address hidden>/T/#u

A load of syslog "Too many BDL entries" appears.

Have a nice week-end, best regards,
    Laurent Lyaudet

FYI:

You can see this every time you login to a terminal screen (not X).

So, Ctl-Alt-F2, then login. You'll generate ~26 of them each time.

Hello :)

I just updated to linux 5.19.0-38 and the bug seems to be gone :)
But other users still have it like FedKad on https://askubuntu.com/questions/1457367/snd-hda-intel-0000001f-3-too-many-bdl-entries-messages-in-system-log

Thanks, best regards,

Hello :)
I had the bug again this evening.
So the bug is less frequent (at least for me) but still exists also on my hardware.

Confirming it's also happening for me with 5.19.0-38.generic as well as 5.19.0.35-generic.

It only does not happen with 5.19.0-31-generic.

Same here - I cannot be certain, but for me it seems to be triggered after screensaver is unlocked. I will return to the desktop, unlock the screensaver, and notice that pulseaudio is taking 100% and audio is no longer working. Sometimes pulseaudio -k will restart/fix it. But other times it will not. See tons of

[242505.848196] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: Too many BDL entries: buffer=4194300, period=135300

in the syslog. /var/log/syslog also filled my hard drive due to this message.

This problem started happening in the past month or so for me.

Nothing to do with any screen saver.

Just boot the system, hit Ctl-Alt-F2 (to get to a console) and login. There they are.

I am also seeing them triggered at random times when pausing and unpausing youtube videos that are playing in Firefox. Even muting and unmuting a video can trigger a flood of the messages and associated audio hangs.

In case I didn't mention it, I am currently running 5.19.0-38-generic #39~22.04.1-Ubuntu

I upgraded Ubuntu to Lunar Lobster 23.04 on Saturday evening.
Since then, I no more have this bug with new kernel 6.2 :)

Thanks, best regards,

Good data point as far as kernel version, but not helpful for those of us who only run the LTS versions. Come on Canonical, this needs to be fixed!

Hi all,

Just wanted to mention that kernel 5.19.0-41 is still affected.

In my case the problem does happen much less often on 5.19.0-41 than when it was introduced in 5.19.0-35 or so, but to be honest it is still frustrating. For the time being I'm reverting back to 5.19.0-32.

Hi all,

I am using Ubuntu 22.04LTS with kernel 5.19.0-41 and have this at bootup
journalctl:[ 8.778039] prod kernel: snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1b.0: Too many BDL entries: buffer=2097152, period=65536
journalctl:[ 19.134032] prod kernel: snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1b.0: Too many BDL entries: buffer=2097152, period=65536

the HW is Intel High_Definition_Audio in the Intel chip-set.

As already mentioned above , fix this for LTS kernel
