Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

I installed 9.10 'Koala' and could not find how to connect to dialup modem, i installed 'Gnome network admin' and entered my settings as i had done with 9.04 but modem will not connect. Having had similar problems before I installed 9.10 on a separate partition so that I would still have a working system.

Thanks for your report. We need more information to debug your problem. Could you explain precisely what steps you followed to get to that point? What settings have you entered? Did your modem give any signal of life? What's the model/make of your modem? Have you tried other methods from

You say in the title of the report: "unable to find settings". What settings are you talking about? In the report you say that you filled them and that the connexion is not working. Is that right?

I installed 9.10 on a separate partition, keeping 9.04 as a dual- boot.
Install was fine - as always - and I then installed
Gnome-network-admin_2.28.1-Oubuntu2_i386.deb. In Network
Settings/Connections/Point-to-Point/Properties I was unable to set the
connection type - it remained blank. Consequently, the modem would not
connect. I have reverted to 9.04 where everything still works fine. I
have used this procedure with every upgrade of Ubuntu since 6.0 because
of early issues - since resolved - as I can only get dial-up internet
here; I have no axcess to higher speed service; I have only one computer
and updating is very slow. Could Ubuntu ensure that dialup is included
'out-of-the-box' as it used to be prior to 8.10?
I hope this is of help as I am looking forward to using the latest
Ubuntu.

I got it: the combo box is always empty because there's no cell renderer in it. Quite astonishing that you're the first to report this problem! ;-)

Rationale for SRU: this bug prevents people from setting up PPP connections. network-admin is not included on the default install, but it's really useful for users with traditional modems (not sure ModemManager works in every case). The fix has been committed upstream and only adds a GtkCellRendererText in the .ui file. It's at [1].

Bugs 475974 and 484559 could be included in the same update - the latter doesn't have a fix yet, but that should be easy to do.

OK for SRU, if someone wants to pick this up. Patch in bug 475974 should also be applied in this case.

Thank you!
