Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This is a quirk update for the -intel video driver, that adds quirks for 5 video chips.

Impact: Fairly serious (X crash or bad resolution behavior)

How addressed: These are all common known flaws that upstream implements the fixes on a per-chip basis using quirks

Patch: See attached. This has been uploaded to hardy-proposed

Reproducing problem: For the crashes, closing the lid of the specific laptop will hang the system. For the resolution problems, simply boot with a live cd and the toolbars will be misplaced.

Regression potential: Slight. These are targeted to specific chipset pci ids to the scope of change is very constrained.

I just posted a question about very similar behavior on launchpad. It involves an Intel 946 desktop board with Intel on board video. If I can supply you with any other information or assist you in testing, contact me via the launchpad question, "Why doesn't my Intel 946 built-in video work with 8.04"

Jimr, there is no such thing as "Intel 946" afaik. But if you think you need a quirk for your card, please post a new bug to xserver-xorg-video-intel with the required information and I can investigate it.

When i use version 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.4 sometimes, parts of screen freeze, doesn't refresh. Only command like this helps "xrandr --size 1024x768".
Display device is (as lspci tells):

00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)

I don't know whether i install package contains linux-backports-modules and linux-ubuntu-modules header files or so (downgrade xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.4 to 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu12), but it doesn't freezes now. Same result was when i changed kernel image from 2.6.24-19-generic to 2.6.24-19-generic (with all backports and restricted modules installed, it doesn't necessary for intel, is it; can it be barrier?).
It's closest bug report, as i see, so i post there.
