I can fix the reason of the crash, but one thing I wonder is if the theme does not show up among the installed themes before doing this?
SUM should scan /usr/lib/usplash for installed themes so they should show up in the gui if they are already there.

If you can come up with a patch, we can probably get it approved to put
this in Hardy.

I have released version 1.9.11. It only contains the fix for this bug and another one-line bugfix so it should be safe to add to hardy.

For Hardy we will need to patch the existing version. Please provide a
diff (debdiff if you know how) and then we can see about getting it
approved.

No thanks, I do not have time to start providing patches to various distros.
I do not really care if this get into Hardy, but the source is out there for you if you want it.

It's released on Debian unstable, so it will go to Ubuntu Intrepid and if someone wants after that, backport it to Hardy. Relax :-)

It's now available on Ubuntu Intrepid, so I set it to Fix Released.

The upstream diff is quite reasonable IMHO (attached).

@motu-sru: what do you think about it? Can I upload this new version to hardy-proposed?

Looks good, you should limit to upload relevant part only, detail in ChangeLog is just cosmetic.

I was thinking in uploading the new version directly as it just contains the two
bug fixes.

Can I upload it or do I need to patch the current version in Hardy? Both options
are the same in the end so I don't know what is preferred...

Your choice, since they ship the same amount of code.
Just use a safe versioning such as 1.9.10-2ubuntu0.1 or 1.9.11-1~hardy1

Uploaded the new release as startupmanager_1.9.11-1~hardy1. The debian/ dir
doesn't include the changes from the Intrepid version, just in case, so it's
just the two bug fixes from the upstream release.
