Thanks for reporting. I've added the tag `regression-update` since this seems to be a bug introduced by an update.

(As an aside, I find this strange, because version 3.36.0-1ubuntu0.1 fixed bug 1873077 where the application simply crashed and it seemed to do so for everyone. So I am curious why it was working for you?)

In version 3.36.0-1 (focal), sound notifications worked, but in 3.36.0-1ubuntu0.1 (focal-updates) not.

Thanks, indeed, the sound fails to play now, seems to be due to the new valac version, it works fine when rebuilding with 0.48.3

So if I've got this right, this was caused by a regression in vala. Good: 0.48.0-1; bad: 0.48.5-0ubuntu1; good (we assume, subject to SRU verification of this fix): 0.48.6-0ubuntu1.

Hello Timur, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-clocks into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-clocks/3.36.0-1ubuntu0.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

status: New → Fix Committed

Presumably Fix Released for vala in Groovy, and if SRU verification is successful then it'll also be Fix Released for vala in Focal, except that Launchpad is not letting me add a Focal task.

The verification of the Stable Release Update for gnome-clocks has completed successfully and the package is now being released to -updates. In the event that you encounter a regression using the package from -updates please report a new bug using ubuntu-bug and tag the bug report regression-update so we can easily find any regressions.

GNOME-Clock

Sorry to sound like a noob here - I am not as technical as all the other posters here seem.

I have just today used Gnome-clock for the first time - downloaded from Ubuntu 20.04 Software "Ubuntu Software" app. It seems a fine clock but, as indicated above, the alarm does not work - it activates correctly but no sound is generated - the sound on my pc is working just fine otherwise.

I have done 'sudo apt-get update' but this made no difference. Should I be doing something else?

Many thanks for your help and patience.
Sincerely
Duncan
