Sadly the patches do not apply cleanly to 1.16.1.

So what I did was to use the latest version 1.16.5 and compiled with [sssd_1.16.3-3ubuntu1.1.diff.gz] from disco (removing all patches before).

And it does work, after adding ad_use_ldaps to my config:
