Hui Wang,

After applying the patch to 4.20.4 (and even after removing hda-verb on module load and wake-up from sleep / hibernation), there's no noise, neither after boot nor after S3 sleep or hibernation. Yes!!!

The quiet sound still remains. After testing it again (mplayer, http://www.vygo.net/hda/11-Ultimatum.ogg 4:00-4:30) I'm pretty sure the EQ is different. The bass is about 10dB lower; the middles also lower but not by as much.
