It will be great if this patch is built-in to kernel.

No it is bug applies to all releases of Ubuntu.
I say that I tested the patch on Ubuntu 16.04 and it works fine.

Who has problems with audio and has Intel+Nvidia should try to use Nvidia Prime (http://help.ubuntu.ru/wiki/nvidia-prime - russian manual).
