I saw the abort in this bug report at least once per session for over a month. Today it is not occurring. I did three things this morning: (1) updated my Oneric system on Sept 19, (2) updated my Oneric system on Sept 20, and (3) downloaded Activity Journal. I've added a piece of the pkg history file that lists the apt-get activity today.

Ignore comment #4. I started up my computer, started 'sudo apt-get update' and fired up Firefox. And got the usual zeitgeist crash.

The crash occurs once per login session. I did the following, based on old bug reports:
% zeitgeist_daemon --quit
% cd $HOME/.local/share/zeitgeist
% mv fts.index fts.index.bak
Logout
Login
Wait

This seems to be a work around.
With a bit of assistance, I should be able to tear apart the indices in fts.index (good) and fts.index (bad).

Hi. The fts problem is well known. It was because of some xapian bugs due to
which crashes were happing(as I heard, I don't work on fts extension). The
update to zeitgeist has been pushed. Check if your system has zeitgeist
0.8.2 which contains all the big fixes

As Manish points out it would be helpful if people could test against zeitgeist-0.8.2 which just got uploaded to Oneiric, but also with zeitgeist-extension-fts-0.0.13 which also just got uploaded. There were some fixes to the setup of the Xapian index that also may have caught this one.
