Green and black dots appear in video playback
While playing some videos, green spots and blurs will appear overlaying the video. It happens particularly badly when the video is dark. When the video is light, you can also sometimes see black dots, but much less than green dots and blurs.
While playing a .mkv file, VLC shows the video codec as "MPEG-4 Video (XVID)". It's hard to know if it happens with other codecs or if it has anything to do with codecs at all, but it doesn't seem to happen on all videos. I have seen it happen while playing flash videos on the internet as well, but much less often.
I have a fully updated Maverick install, but this bug has existed for me since Lucid (it didn't in Karmic).
I will attach two screenshots that demonstrate the problem. In the second attachment, the dots in the middle of the screenshot are part of the actual video, but the green dots around the edge in a straight line are the bug.
I'm using the restricted Nvidia driver. I think the problem happened when I used Nouveau too, but I can't remember for certain. Last time I tried to disable the restricted driver, my system broke, so I don't want to try it and find out.
