xterm -iconic option does not work in Ubuntu 18.04

Bug Description
After upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04 I found that xterm's "-iconic" option no longer worked (the terminal window appeared full-size). It is supposed to spawn minimized to the task bar.
This used to work on Ubuntu 14.04.
Ubuntu release: 18.04.3 LTS
xterm version: 330-1ubuntu2

That's due to a window manager change, and since Ubuntu is a few years behind in xterm versions, it won't be fixed in Ubuntu 18.
