Bug Description

Binary package hint: xsplash

Hi

Sorry for lack of use of apport, can't login to the UNR live images at all due to ttys being broken and xsplash preventing use of xorg.

When booting the beta candidate for UNR in virtualbox or on my eeepc, 20090929.5, it boots and I get the gdm and the login sounds but at the time where xsplash should disappear, the spinning cursor just becomes a mouse cursor and it doesn't go away.

Tobin Davis sees the same issue on an Acer Aspire One netbook

Bye

I tried replacing my initrd.lz manually with a fixed one, but the result fails to boot -- not sure what I did wrong.

bug might be exposed by this fix:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/32632403/nautilus_1%3A2.28.0-0ubuntu2_1%3A2.28.0-0ubuntu3.diff.gz

after patching /usr/bin/xsplash to log to /tmp (it cant write to /var/log/gdm) I get:

+ a couple more lines cut in the paste:
fade finished
exiting

It seems that this is a second xsplash which gets activated after the first one and clobbers the interesting logfile

The same happened to me on a Dell mini9 notebook and with Ubuntu Netbook Remix (20090929.4).
I couldn't get any other information because even the terminal consoles were unavailable.
