Colors and forms onto the new splash seems bad at high resolution : with 1440*900, I can see some pixels and the blurring effect looks bad.

 xsplash image at boot suffers from bad gradient banding on left and right of images.
Seen at all resolutions.

I'm pretty convinced this is not a duplicate of bug 423632. On my desktop with a 22 inch lcd I'm seeing nothing like as bad as the above attached jpg. I'm seeing visible but subtle banding in the gradients in the left and right bottom corners. However on the laptop it looks great.

Desktop has nvidia 8600gt with dvi cable.
