Bug Description
Binary package hint: xsplash
Graphics is black screen at approximately splash screen during startup. Current problem (xsplash) may be due to me logging in via xdmcp with "[xdmcp] <cr> Enable=true" in /etc/gdm/
Restarting gdm gives no joy.
Server is Dell Optiplex SX270.
Intrepid works well with accelerated graphics, can display HD video contents within system limits (70% CPU)
Jaunty does not display video at all - have reverted using ppa repositories (intrepid drivers), but HD video now using 110% CPU (Hyperthreading) and PC locks up with fans running very fast (100%+ CPU load ??) every half-ho
Karmic gives no video at all. I realize that this is alpha release, but each release is getting progressively works. Assume next release will go backwards. (no video to lose, may cause other problems, eg catch fire.
I am using a live desktop version via USB with persistent storage to try on various hardware, so can install new packages, patches, work-arounds etc..
Good luck guys and gals, a fix for this would be REALLY GOOD
KARMIC alpha 4 on USB live desktop i386 with persistent storage, up-to-date with all repositories
