Bug Description

Im currently using Ubuntu Breezy Badger, and i got some problems.

Ive got an VIA Integrated UniChrome™ Pro IGP (K8N800) gfx card.
And i can only use the vesa driver, not the via.

When i replacing vesa whit via in /etc/X11/xorg.conf i got an xorg error.
Here is the config file: http://www.gavle.to/~timblog/files/xorg.conf
And the xorg log: http://www.gavle.to/~timblog/files/xorg.log

I would really like to see support for my card in feature.

On my Sharp PC-AL27 AMD64 laptop, the vesa driver works, but the login screen takes an extra 1-2 minutes to actually appear. After the bootup dialogue, the screen goes black for 1-2 minutes. Then, the login screen finally appears. Obviously, a driver problem exists. What do I need to submit to help solve this problem?

Would it be possible for people having troubles with hardware support for their VIA cards to try the Dapper Flight 4 livecd and see if it find their cards for them?

I did a format and reinstall using Flight 4. It did not detect my graphics chipset on install and all my subsequent tweaking got me was the "black screen of death". (xorg via driver, openchrome driver as well as the linspire "via" driver that some have had success with)

VIA Integrated UniChrome™ Pro IGP (K8N800)
Acer Aspire 1360
Graphics Device ID 3108
lspci : 0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. S3 Unichrome Pro VGA Adapter (rev 01)

I would be happy to work with anyone on this as I know it is pretty impossible to troubleshoot without hardware to test with.

Still: Just install XORG 7.0 or any version above!

Synaptic shows that the xorg version is 7.0.0-0ubuntu17.

So is there another version 7.0 of xorg that I am missing? It doesn't detect on install and any attempt to choose the "via" driver when reconfiguring leads to the infamous "black screen of death".

See above for my hardware specs.

I have Ubuntu edgy. Since Dapper drake the via drivers in X.org worked well... but with 3d applications the system hangs.

I can't report a detailed bug report...

Can you re-test this with edgy please? Using one of the desktop cds or the dvd in "live" mode should be sufficient. In case things to not work, please try to provide more information following the instructions at

Same problem here.

With Ubuntu Edgy I cannot use any complex 3D application. For example Google Earth appears black if set up to use OpenGL and Beryl gives an error about no dual texture support.

Hope this gets fixed. Found on ubuntuforums more people with similar problems and found that a openchrome project is underway, but no .deb file to install and test.

I've installed Feisty Fawn.

The graphics is working well... but I must add "DisableIRQ" "true" in xorg.conf.

The 3d isn't working... When I run 3d application the screen become black and the system freeze. I have to put out the battery!
