Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-savage

I've just installed lubuntu alternate 10.10 on a machine with a savage video card and a monitor Samsung SyncMaster 591s.
The installation succeeded, but the monitor was black only showing a box that says "Hz ?".

I generated the xorg.conf file, and changed from the savage driver to vesa, and now it is working.

Thanks for your report. Did it work in a previous release? In that case it would be nice if you could provide an Xorg.0.log for instance by using a live CD of that release. It would be good if you can provide the xrandr info as explained on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/NonGraphicalBoot for a previous working release if any, as well as for the working vesa driver and the failing savage driver in Ubuntu 10.10. The instructions are given for a live CD, so on an installed system you will have to add "text" in the grub menu instead of in the CD start menu.

Changed in xserver-xorg-video-savage (Ubuntu):
assignee: nobody → Tormod Volden (tormodvolden)
status: New → Incomplete
summary: - monitor not working with savage driver
+ [prosavage8] monitor not working with savage driver

Hey Leo,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty

  apport-collect <bug-number>

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
