Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-all

I have an iBook G3, model 600MHz combo, Late 2001 and I got excited to see that Ubuntu Hardy has fixed the boot issues on this machine.

Unfortunately, there are problems with X. The monitor native resolution is 1024x768, but Xorg thinks that it is only working with a 800x600 monitor and I see a corrupted display when I boot with the Live CD, unfortunately. :-(

I used to use Debian on this machine and I was able to use X with no problems regarding the resolution (since the early XFree86 4.0.x era).

The machine uses the r128 driver and /var/log/Xorg.log shows some errors that shouldn't be there...

This behaviour is seen both before and after I modprobed the apm-emu module.

I am attaching some logs so that you can see the problem and help me please.

(This is, BTW, the following release:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$
)

Thank you very much for any help here.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. In the development cycle for Intrepid there have been some vast improvements in the open source ati video driver and we could use your help testing them. Could you please download the latest Alpha CD image of Intrepid and test this particular bug just using the Live CD? You can find the latest image at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Your testing can help make Ubuntu and the open source ati driver even better! Thanks in advance.

I discovered the problem in Debian (and, as a side-effect, I think,
Ubuntu). You can see further information regarding this bug at:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=484015

In particular, it is interesting to notice my reply to the bug at:

I hope this helps.

Just to let everybody knows that this bug still exists with a freshly installed karmic release. :-(

If I use a static configuration file, then I can use X.

I have other issues with xserver-xorg-video-r128, but it seems to be better to file them under a different bug.

Thanks.

Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.
