No Desktop on Dapper Beta Live CD with nVidia card

Bug Description

I downloaded and tried the Dapper Beta Live CD on my desktop system. Using the default boot options it loads X and I get garbage (vertical lines).

Switching to a console works, however the text is stretched off the upper and lower limits of my display (a 17" LCD panel) so reading is somewhat difficult.

Booting the Live CD in Graphics Safe Mode works fine, though the desktop is limited to 1024x768 rather than the native 1280x1024.

Breezy is currently installed on the system and works great with the proprietary nVidia driver.

My nVidia card is a AGP eVGA GeForce6 6600 (w/ 256mb).

The LiveCD doesn't use the binary driver by default.

I didn't think it did either. However an lsmod showed that the driver "nvidia" is loaded, is that not the binary driver? I run with nvidia on my debian box and I know that comes from the non-free package since I build it myself.

I don't know yet if this card works on any previous Ubuntu Live CD since the system had an ATI in it until this week.

Ah my mistake. I figured since the kernel driver was being loaded that X was using it too, but the xorg.conf shows that the nv driver is the one its using.

I guess that probably makes this bug a duplicate of https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-driver-nv/+bug/29975 as the video card specified in that bug is in the same family as mine.

I'm gonna mark this as a duplicate. If it's still a problem after the other bug gets fixed then I'll reopen it.
