I was aware of the problem but I've never had the time to focus on it. I'm glad to see that Mario did it.
I have reviewed Mario's patch and it looks good to me. I think we should adopt it and keep it (as a workaround) until the problem is fixed in X.
I definitely I agree with Martin that we need feedback so as to be sure that the fix doesn't cause regressions.
