OK, tried that version. Short summary of findings.

When using modeset, garbled screen (like broken TV).

With nomodeset, boots into VESA resolution 1024x768, so does not recognize/use native resolution of screen, X.org.0.log attached.

Will go back to garbled screen and get you a clean dmesg in a few hours.
