Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Graphics: Creative CT6710 - RIVA TNT (agp) 16mb
Monitor: Relisys TL770

Virgin system, ubuntu 10.04 Beta - fresh install from the live cd.

On boot up, after the "ubuntu" splash screen with 4 red dots, a window opens saying "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode. Your screen, graphics card and input device settings could not be detected correctly. you will need to configure these yourself.

I then get a window saying "what would you like to do?" options to run in low-graphics once, reconfigure graphics, troubleshoot, exit to console or restart x. I choose reconfigure.

A further window says "How would you like to reconfigure your display?" None of the three options appear to do anything. selecting any of the radio buttons and hitting ok just opens up the same window again with the first option selected. Cancel takes you back to "what would you like to do?" I would have expected "use default config" to cause x to start up in the low-graphics mode. I would have expected "create new configuration" to open up a config screen where i can choose from a list of know cards and monitors, and perhaps then choose a resolution, refresh rate, colour depth, and ideally tweak the settings to adjust the picture size and position, with a "use these settings" button to make it all work... I would have expected "use backed up config" to at least throw up a message saying that i don't have one!!

From the "what do you want to do" screen, "troubleshooting", then "edit configuration file" just opens the "troubleshooting" window again....

The x-server log file looks as if it correctly identifies the card (identifies the NV04 chipset ok).

Cancelling back to "what would you like to do?" and choosing "run in Low-graphics for just one session" (I think this should read "Run in Low-Resolution mode") actually results in 1280x1024, 75hz, full colour (can't tell what bit depth).

Cheers
