Bug Description

Yesterday I downloaded the new program versions with the Update Manager. Now my Samsung RF711 Notebook does not boot anymore. Using the previous kernel still works.

In the syslog, from here everything seems to go wrong:

With the same model of laptop I can confirm that this bug affects me too. If you need my logs let me know, though they look very similar to Gert's. However I'm not running the pae kernel but rather the generic 64 bit kernel.

Just realise: I upgraded my BIOS (to dmi.bios.version: 15HX.M042.20120302.SSH) in november because of problems I had with my new SSD. See:

http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?107116-Dual-boot-Ubuntu-on-SDD-Windows-on-HD-does-not-work

This might be a reason not many people are having this problem.

I'm also running that BIOS version though I didn't install it as it came with the machine.

Seems to be a problem with the nouveau driver as setting nomodeset in grub allows the kernel to boot, although 3D acceleration then doesn't work.

Gert de Boer, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-nouveau REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
