Bug Description

Even with current edgers-xorg and kernel 3.4.999 20120526 from ubuntu ppa because no non-pae kernel available in edgers ppa;
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50403

Can't restart x with crtlAltPtScnK, popup stating systems running low-graphics mode, not detected correctly video/mouse/keyboard: configure yourself, but no keybord/mouse available to click-> hard reboot
When running, the dynamic images on screen are something like parsed with white pixels, and the cursor suffers "echo" in its drawing
That in ubuntu-classic no-effects, same in unity
Latest machine and video BIOSes
nvidia-96 not allowed to install as a workaround because of a xorg ABI dependancy thing.

Affects me too.

Dell Latitude D800 notebook with: 1.4 Ghz Pentium-M, nVidia Geforce4 4200 AGP 8x [NV28]

Currently running Lubuntu 12.04 (for the non-PAE kernel) using the nvidia-96 driver. I had to downgrade xorg to Oneiric's version to be able to install run nvidia-96.

Nouveau on this machine is unusable for much beyond getting through an installation.

Bib, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-nouveau REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
