1920x1200 screen resolution does not work (i810 + Intel 82G965)

Using the i810 driver with Intel's 82G965, screen resolution 1920x1200 is not offered, even after adding it to the xorg.conf file manually.
I am running the latest packages from Apt:

xorg 1:7.2-0ubuntu9
compiz 1:0.3.6-1ubuntu10
xserver-xorg-video-i810 2:1.7.4-0ubuntu1

Btw., I also tried playing with the 915resolution tool, but this only *reduced* the screen resolution even further (to 640x680).

Please try installing xserver-xorg-video-intel to see if it helps.

When xserver-xorg-video-intel is installed the X server still appears to start (the screen goes black and I can hear the startup sound), but no output is produced on the screen.
I should probably mention that I am using DVI output (via ADD2 card), so possibly the driver incorrectly selects VGA output, but I have no way to test this. Is there a way to force the driver to use the DVI port?

This bug is listed for xserver-xorg-video-intel, but the first few comments mentions xserver-xorg-video-i810, which one is it?

Anyway, I've spent several hours to get full resolution on my monitor (Samsung 243T, 1920x1200), with no luck so far. I've tried both drivers.

My monitor reports an resolution of 19200x1200 pixels, and 74.3 kHz, 60Hz, NP (NP probably means -HSync +Vsync).
But xdpyinfo and xrandr reports 1600x1200 pixels. Visually, the picture appears sharp vertically, but unsharp horizontally,.

xrandr -q gives:

I can set the resolution to 1920x1200 using either a menu item in System--> Preferences--> Screen Resolution, or with xrandr -s 0

Then both xrandr and xdpyinfo reports 1920x1200 pixels, but visually, large parts of the desktop gets off-screen, and the monitor reports
73,7 kHz, 60 Hz, NP, and no screen resolution. (in other words: an unknown resolution)

The log file /var/log/Xorg.0.log lists several modelines which are not in my xorg.conf. Are they from the monitor itself?

This last line is almost like my modeline in xorg.conf:

I use +hsync -vsync because the monitor reports PN when I use it with Windows 2000, where full resolution works fine.

Is 915resolution of any use with xserver-xorg-video-intel, or only with xserver-xorg-video-i810?

From "apt-cache show 915resolution":

"The 915resolution package becomes obsolete with the newer xorg,
 especially if you have the xserver-xorg-video-intel package installed.
 Newer xorg brings modesetting support by default."

I just tried xserver-xorg-video-intel again with the latest Gutsy and finally it works, and with full screen resolution.
