Bug Description

System: Ubuntu netbook edition on Dell Inspiron mini 10v
1. Upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 (previously from 10.04 to 10.10, and 10.04 was the initial setup)
2. Rebooted
3. I always use hibernate when turning the power off
4. Each time I resume from hibernate, graphics appear broken. While resuming I can't see ubuntu logo. Finally, the computer appears resumed. At the rightmost part of the screen I can partially see the running application, but no interaction is possible. Tried ctrl-alt-f keys, but couldn't see the terminal. Tried to login and reboot without seeing what I type - no success.

I wonder if the same happens on clean install? For me this is a real dealbreaker and I wouldn't mind reinstalling if it helps.

I have the same problem since I installed Ubuntu 11.04. Almost every time I open the lid of my laptop (computer on, not suspended) the screen freezes. I can tell the processes are still alive but nothing moves in the screen (except the mouse). Usually I switch to a terminal (Ctrl + F1) and restart gdm.

If I switch to the terminal and then go back to the graphic interface, without restarting GDM, this message appears in the kern.log:

  Aug 5 20:45:08 jimi kernel: [ 465.420906] [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

And if I do that two more times...

  Aug 5 20:45:36 jimi kernel: [ 492.996705] [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id
  Aug 5 20:45:51 jimi kernel: [ 508.597962] [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

Sometimes I get a "Restoring backlight" message just before the "invalid framebuffer" error:

  Aug 1 12:59:06 jimi kernel: [13607.373647] video LNXVIDEO:01: Restoring backlight state
  Aug 1 12:59:06 jimi kernel: [13607.382141] [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

=== System Description ===

* Running Ubuntu Natty 11.04, built for amd64.

* uname -a : 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:24 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux"

One more thing,

 * This is happening to me with a fresh-install.
 * This is happening to me not only when I hibernate my system but when I leave the lid closed with the system unsuspended.
 * I've also experienced this while doing nothing (gdm restarts unexpectedly and the same message appears in kern.log).

Should the title of this post change?

My screen suddenly turns black. Happens in average once a day. Keeps black even if changing to another console.

This is happening to me randomly and with no apparent reason (no lid closing, hibernation, etc.). Power is set to sleep when laptop lid closed and system always wakes up properly.

Machine is HP Compaq 6710s running Natty 11.04 Intel i386
