Have you been seeing other instances of this freeze, or just this once? If you'd been running natty successfully previously, without this freeze, when did you first start noticing it? If you boot to an older kernel does it go away?

How frequently does the freeze happen?

Please test with the following kernel:

  http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/

In this newer kernel code is a fix to enlarge unfenced alignments, which appears to be a problem specific to i915/i945. If that kernel makes this lockup bug go away, then we can investigate extracting and backporting it. If not and we can rule out that fix for this issue, upstream (Chris Wilson) will investigate further.

Hi Bryce,

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. This seems to have been a one-off event, which makes it a little tricky to debug. I have been running up-to-date natty with unity continuously since the lockup occurred and haven't seen it before or since. I'm not sure how best to proceed...

Hmm, darn. Well, I'm fairly sure this is a dupe of #720468, for which we've had a couple people give feedback, so I'll dupe this to that and we'll proceed from there. Thanks for following up!
