Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-
This bug is similar to Bug #555573, but I am posting a new bug because I have slightly different log outputs and a different cause for the problem.
Whenever I run a program that uses the GPU heavily, such as programs that use OpenGL, I will get a GPU hang within a few seconds. The issue seems to be related with how hard the GPU is working because I was able to also get the problem when I moved around some tabs very quickly in Chromium browser.
One program that was able to reproduce the problem was 3D Virtual Creature Evolution under OpenGL rendering mode in Wine.
When the bug occurs, the display freezes up and I can move the mouse only very slowly and choppily. It does not freeze up the whole system since I am able to switch to a console and stop gdm. (This does not cause the problem to stop. I have to reboot.) When I switch to the console, I get lines that spam the terminal with:
[118225.108016] [drm:i915_
[118225.108186] [drm:i915_
I am not sure which files to attach so feel free to ask me to attach more. I will attach two files that have some relevant information.
Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick
Kernel 2.6.35-22-generic
GPU: Intel GMA 3000 with i915 driver
Includes dmesg output and what was spammed on my console. Search for 'gpu hung' to find the relevant lines.
