8086:2a42 screen flickers in the bottom half of the screen at random

Screen flickers at the bottom of the screen at random. Never see it happen on the login screen and happens sometimes when i am using amsn.

This happens to me using Lucid on an Intel 4500m. The screen flickers and briefly displays lines at rare but random times. Generally only occurs on the bottom left or the entire right side. It might be a Compositing related issue, I will try running sans Compiz and confirm.

No, this is not a compiz issue. The screen flicked while running Metacity only. This happens when using the Lucid 2.9 version and the PPA 2.10 version. It also happens whether I use EXA or UXA. Anything debug reports I could add?

I raised this issue on #ubuntu-x and received the following suggestion:
