Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Using karmic alpha 2 with all updates. On laptop lid close system freezes.

I reported this bug upstream already

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22383

and for jaunty it is fixed in xserver-xorg-video-intel - 2:2.7.99.901+git20090624.f0270bbb-0ubuntu0sarvatt~jaunty from xorg-edgers.

Need to port it to karmic xserver-xorg-video-intel as I am having the same freeze here also.

As a workaround until the patches from the referenced bug make there way back down, pm-suspend does successfully restore the machine to working state. Editting /etc/acpi/events/lidbtn to just suspend directly avoiding the lib.sh screenblank efforts works for me.

eg.

# /etc/acpi/events/lidbtn
# Called when the user closes or opens the lid

event=button[ /]lid
#action=/etc/acpi/lid.sh
action=/usr/sbin/pm-suspend

Using DELL Inspiron 510m with Ubuntu Karmic with

xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2

the work around proposed by yositune does not work for me, so may be the problem is not the same

On lid off, i got a freeze black screen, the mouse pointer appears but can't move, an i'm obliged to hard reboot

David,

Look at the duplicate bug thread and this thread showing it's a problem with the intel driver for more. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22383.

I think you're right that my direct call fix only "sortof" works as I do get problems with blank screen and blinking suspend light on occasion... that I can usually resolve by opening and closing the lid a few times.

Banging with a hammer may work but I have not confirmed that fix... yet.

Also note it seems to have been fixed
